To those who have watched Glen Beck over the years, we learned of a technique politicians use to get something drastic and sweeping past their people referred to as “the Overton Window.” Its use has been present in U.S. politics for years but may not simply be American; push for a drastic bill with sweeping powers getting everyone freaked out, then appear to back off while still maintaining a request for something that seems less drastic than the original power grab. However, this technique has never been so effectively used as with our current U.S. president, Barack Obama.
Upon reading the timeline of Morsi’s come to power in Egypt and building an Islamic state, from Nezar AlSayyad at the Berkley Blog, and since there is a good relationship between Morsi and Obama, is this one technique in governing that Morsi picked from him or by watching our U.S. government in action?

Morsi played a trick on the Egyptian people and won big. The pattern of issuing surprise and bold declaration in which he orders sweeping declarations and extreme measures, then backtracks but only on some of them a few weeks later to appear as if he is responding to the opposition, has allowed him to get many of these measures instituted in record time. Indeed this process had become a signature tactic of this rule. By the time, the constitution was ratified with 63% approving it, Morsi had acquired through it the authority to assign the Islamist- dominated Shura Council- a body he appointed one third of its members- full legislative duties until the election of the future parliament now renamed “House of Representatives” are conducted.
