…freedom is not just a dream, it’s there, beyond those fences that we build all by ourselves.
-Quote from the movie Instinct
The quote above I think expresses exactly the concept behind modern civilization. We build fences, and agree to curtail our behavior, in order to live in some semblance of peace and safety.
That is why those who founded this nation came to this country. Not because they wanted more fences, but because they sought out the basic human instinct that drives all of us…the desire to be free.
Now we all understand that in order to live in a reasonable semblance of safety we must tolerate some fences. Even the founders understood that, but what they realized is what many of us have long forgotten. That while it is important to be safe, it is much more important to be Free. That is why the founders created a Constitution which erected limited fences so that while our property and God given rights were assured, our Freedom was not completely limited and when it was, only to the extent that which we agreed.
Sadly, modern-day Americans don’t know real Freedom, on the contrary, they are so accustomed to their numerous fences, some built by themselves, others forced upon them, that they have lost the will to even try to rip the fences down. Every piece of new legislation, every single Executive Order, is just another fence that separates us not from danger or harm, but from real Freedom and from True Liberty.
Many of us have only recently awakened to the realization that we are surrounded by almost unlimited fences, many not of our making. Unfortunately we are so dumbstruck at the monumental task of their removal, that we have been stunned into inaction while more fences are erected around us daily. Gun control, Drones, CISPA, Patriot Act, Obamacare, over taxation, Smart Grid, Agenda 21… all of them…fences which are being erected in our way, blocking our free will and funneling us all towards one terrifying destination….tyranny.
But as it becomes more and more apparent to many in this country that they are not Free, that their Liberty and the Liberty of future generations relies only upon their ability to tear down those fences, you will see a change in them; a look in their eye that says they have had enough…that the last fence which was thrown up against them barring their way will be the last. Then dear reader, then we may all know what Freedom truly is.. then we may all once again remember the price of Liberty.
Because until enough of us decided to awake from our stupor of inaction … the best we can hope for is a comfortable spot so that we may sit along the most recently erected fence where we may stare through the chain links trying desperately to catch a glimpse of that far off distant glow that is almost totally obscured by all of the metal and wire which make up the millions of barricades between us and the ever fading light… of Freedom.
