When Progressive-Socialist Bill de Blasio was elected Mayor of New York, the left celebrated saying he would bring a “new era” of Progressivism.
According to an article on Capital New York, Mayor de Blasio’s honeymoon with some on the left is over, at least as it pertains to his Progressive waste agenda:
On WNYC’s “Brian Lehrer Show” this morning, city sanitation commissioner Kathryn Garcia defended the administration’s winter snow removal, its aggressive attempts to increase recycling, and the “progressive” nature of an Upper East Side waste station.
…“I’m so thrilled to hear about the progressive agenda,” said Jennifer from Yorkville, referencing Mayor Bill de Blasio’s progressive rhetoric. “But I just want to hear, with all due respect, from the new commissioner, because I know that she’s visited the 91st Street site, how she thinks that focusing truck traffic into the most densely populated area … how that’s progressive and how that fits in with the progressive agenda?”
…“At the end of the day, this is really fundamentally about fairness and making sure that every borough is managing their own waste,” Garcia said.
…When a landlord called in to complain that he had seen sanitation workers digging through garbage bags to find recyclable items and write tickets, Garcia was unapologetic.
“I am for enforcement in terms of getting our diversion rates up,” she said. “We are only at 15.4 percent right now. We should be higher … All of those materials are of value to the city. We get revenue share for that.”
