Article I, Section 2 of the 1922 Communist Party USA’s (CPUSA) Constitution (formerly known as the Communist Party of America), clearly states that they were founded to:
…educate, direct, and lead the working class of America for the conquest of political power; to destroy the bourgeois state machinery; to establish the Dictatorship of the Proletariat in the form of Soviet power; to abolish the capitalist system and to introduce the Communist Society.
I wonder if St. Louis City Treasurer, Tishaura Jones, had that in mind when she tweeted this:
The Hershel Walker Peace and Justice Award ceremony is the Friends of People’s World annual fundraising event held at the CWA Local 6300 union hall in St. Louis, Missouri.
People’s World is the CPUSA newspaper and according to an article written by the former head of the CPUSA’s St. Louis Chapter, Tony Pecinovsky, which he posted on the People’s World website, Tishaura Jones was indeed a recipient of the award:
This year’s ‘Peace & Justice’ Awardees were:
– Holly Roe, a leader in the Missouri State Workers’ Union, CWA 6355
– Andrew Shaughnessy, the St. Louis area PROMO organizer; PROMO is a statewide lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender rights organization
– Tishaura Jones, St. Louis City Treasurer and former State Representative
– Garry Elliot, business manager for the 8,000 member-strong Eastern Missouri Laborers’ District Council
According to the Hershel Walker Peace and Justice Awards Pamphlet from 2011 (Which even displays a coloring page of Karl Marx), Hershel Walker was born in 1902, later joined the Young Communist League (around the time that the 1922 CPUSA Constitution was created) and was a loyal Communist until the day he died in a car accident in 1990.
While Mr. Walker did participate in the noble cause of advancing the Civil Rights movement, the fact that he willingly joined an organization whose founding principle was to destroy the United States from within, in my opinion over shadows any positive impact. Because many others who also participated in the Civil Rights movement, such as Dr. Martin Luther King, did not feel it necessary to surround themselves with traitors in order to right the wrong of institutionalized racism.
As disturbing as it is that a CPUSA awards ceremony is openly held in a CWA union hall year after year, it is even more disturbing that a City of St. Louis official is ‘honored’ to receive a CPUSA award.
But since I have no proof that Treasurer Tishaura Jones is herself a Communist, and her tweet seems to show that she wrongly thought that the award was from the Union (Even though the CWA in St. Louis is lousy with Communists at the top) I will give her the benefit of the doubt and strongly suggest to her that in the future, before blindly accepting awards, she may wish to put that staff of hers to a better use and have them research exactly who… she is receiving an award… from.
